Bärbel Sonn-Rudolf was born in 1948 in Nürtingen, Germany. As a child she had dreamed of becoming a dressmaker and designer. During her early childhood she sought to emulate her grandmother, who used parts of old fabrics and worn clothes to create new ones. This was the time when Bärbel Sonn-Rudolf discovered a passion for the craft of tailoring, where through the combination of different fabrics she was able to design and create individual pieces of high quality.
The concept that she now presents as Luxusrecycling (luxury recycling) has therefore been strongly influenced by her upbringing. Since 1979 she has lived with her family in Munich, Germany. After many years working in the fashion industry as a freelance designer, in 1995 she moved on to begin her own dressmaking business. She has since focused primarily on the design of custom-made clothes for women, but also worked on fabric designs for the interior. The Luxusrecycling concept was the underlying theme for various collections at that time. In 2002, she went on to design a range of handbags under the label Bernet + Sonn.
